With most Chinese adolescents being the only-children in their respective families, their parents do nearly everything for them so that the younger generation becomes accustomed to depending on others, lacking due ability to solve problems independently.
How can parents help children to be independent? First of all, parents are advised to moderately let go of children's hands, giving the kids opportunities to learn how to overcome difficulties and handle problems on their own. Secondly, parents are expected to render assuring assistance when needed. Last but not least, parents should respect their children's ideas if only they are not too iirational. Never should parents blame or scold their children only because those latter's views or decisions seem too childish, funny or immature.
It is wiser for parents to instruct children in a proper way than to plan and do everything for them. The children's future and fate are in their own hands, so the parents' mission is to play the part of guides properly.
